MEES Coordinator - Job Description

General Description

Provides instructional support to Migrant Education Even Start teachers and districts serving Migrant Education Program preschool students.

Employment Standards

Certification, Education and Experience: Children’s Center Permit; Two years teaching experience beyond permit requirements working with preschool children ages 3-5; experience working with language minority children; valid California driver’s license required.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of child development, early childhood education, teaching methods, resources, and techniques; ability to supervise and guide children; ability to organize and direct classroom and outside activities; demonstrated ability to train and monitor the work of aides; communicate effectively in English and Spanish; establish and maintain harmonious relationships with children and parents; ability to travel to assigned classrooms and interact with staff effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide assessment training.

  • Guide the assessment of all preschool children in Region 1.

  • Manage the collection of assessment data.

  • Assist in the setup of preschool classroom environments.

  • Lead curriculum selection and implementation process at the preschool level.

  • Meet with staff and problem solve classroom situations.

  • Model teach.

  • Coach preschool staff in effective practices.

  • Provide staff inservice training in the areas of ECE, language acquisition, parent training techniques, developmentally appropriate practices, and literacy development.

  • Manage the reporting of services to students and families.

  • Conduct site visitations.

  • Provide technical assistance to districts implementing direct services to migrant preschool children.

  • Conduct quarterly reviews of all MEES sites.

  • Help build capacity in MEES programs. Assist in the establishment of linkages between MEES programs and other preschool programs.

  • Monitor the needs of participating families. Ensure that the needs of families are addressed.

  • Attend appropriate state and regional trainings. Coordinate conference and workshop participation of MEES staff.

  • Attend MEES Coordinators meetings as a representative of Region 1.

  • Lead the application process for MEES funding for subsequent fiscal years.

  • Communicate regularly with the state MEES office.

  • Report as needed to the Director, Migrant Education Program, Region 1.
