Out of School Youth Specialist
Job Description
Assist in the Identification and Recruitment of Out of School Youth. Keep in close contact with clients. Motivate students to continue with their schooling. Provide information on GED, HS Completion, ESL, Adult Education, Vocational Training, community college programs, INEA, and library services. Survey student needs in the areas of health services, citizenship, DMV, and transportation. Link students to existing resources, and leverage Migrant Education Program resources for the unique needs of this population.
Employment Standards
Certification, Education and Experience
Must have a valid California Secondary Credential. Pupil Personnel Credential preferred. Experience working with at risk populations at the secondary level.
Knowledge and Abilities
Must have an understanding of the Migrant Education Program. Excellent communication skills in English and Spanish. Bilingual/biliterate. Ability to network with schools and community organizations.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Out of School Youth Specialist will work with local recruiters to identify and recruit Out of School Youth; complete Out of School Youth Profile for participating students; network with high school, community school, adult education, community college, ROP, employment training staff; provide guidance and counseling to Out of School Youth; link students to available training and education programs; survey needs of students in the areas of health services, citizenship, DMV, and transportation; link students to available resources, as well as advocate for effective supplemental uses of Migrant Education Program funds to serve this population; host a minimum of one Out of School Youth Conference annually.
